(also known asInternational Day of the BookorWorld Book Days) is a yearly event on 23 April, organized byUNESCOto promote reading,publishingandcopyright.

The Day was first celebrated in 1995 .

The date is also the anniversary of the birth and death of William Shakespeare.

  • World Intellectual Property Dayis observed annually on 26 April.

The event was established by theWorld Intellectual Property Organization(WIPO) in 2000 to "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and "to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators andinnovatorsto the development of societies across the globe".


26 April was chosen as this was the date on which theConvention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organizationentered into force in 1970.
